We have always dreamed of owning a dog. It was in the plans after Mark and I got married, but we became pregnant with Maddie before our dream became a realty. Fast forward nine and half years, Maddie dreamed of owning a dog as well.
Over the last two months Maddie’s desire for a dog has grown and I started to pray for the right fur baby to come into our lives. I said, “Lord, you know which breed and age would be best for our family. You know the circumstances and timing.” I had no idea he would answer my prayer so soon!
Last Wednesday morning we still had dreams of owning a dog, but it was still only a dream. Then Wednesday night at 6pm, Pine Ridge Siberians, had a notice on their Facebook page seeking an immediate placement for a husky. The dog was up to date on shots and came with everything a dog would need.
We had visited Pine Ridge last winter and had met Cassandra and her sweet husky pups. She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet and her dogs are the friendliest, softest and well cared for pups I have ever met. Trusting her judgement were huskies are concerned, I immediately Facebook messaged Cassandra and asked her about this sweet puppy. She messaged me right back to call her.
After talking with her briefly and finding out the logistics of why the dog was being given up so quickly. I told her I would need to talk to Mark and I would get back to her as soon as possible. She would need to know that night if we were going to be this dogs furever home. I called Mark and gave him a run down of the details. To say he was stunned and speechless was an understatement.
I explained to Mark there would be no rehoming fee due to her needing to be placed so quickly and I answered all of the other questions he had. Together we decided to jump and trust the Lord to catch us. I called Cassandra back and let her know we would indeed take the dog. One minute we were dogless, the next minute we became a forever home.
After she gave me the number to call I contacted the dogs owner right away. I learned she was a two year old husky, American Indian dog mix. She has had some mushing training, loves kids and needed to be picked up the next morning. The owner agreed to meet us in Austin, MN which was about half way for both of us. We met in the parking lot of Runnings and waited to meet our new furry friend.
As soon as she jumped out of the truck Skye greeted us with her tail wagging and friendly dog kisses. We had her owner fill out some paper work and put the rest of Skye’s belongings into our van. As we stood and talked to Skye’s owner, it was clear she had taken care of her as though she were her child. She talked about Skye as I would if I was going to drop off one of our kids to spend the night some where. You could hear the love she held in her heart for her furbaby.
We could tell this was not a choice she wanted to make, but was being forced to make. I want Skye’s former owner to know, we may have rescued Skye, but honestly, she has rescued us. I didn’t know I needed her, but Skye has taught me more about myself in her short time with us than I have learned in a long time. The Lord continues to reveal himself to me through her. The parables and lessons he is teaching me through her, I will treasure forever. Thank you for raising such a gentle, caring, independent, lovable dog. Please know I meant it when I said our door is open to you any time and we would love to have you visit her.
It is now with great pleasure I would like to introduce our miracle furbaby, Skye. God orchestrated her into our lives as a conductor leads his orchestra. He knew I needed her for such a time as this in my life. When I think of Skye, I think of the verse “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called, children of God.”
We will be starting a new series on our blog called, Life with Skye, we want to invite you along on our journey of owning Skye. Learning the ropes of becoming not only becoming a husky house, but a rescue house. Visit often to find out how our new Russell’s Adventure is going!
