The War that Changed my Life

I have been looking and looking for chapter books Naomi would enjoy and love. Timeless classics she could connect to and allow them to shape her character. Ones she would read over and over because she connects to them. To shape her character, but also challenge her thinking. Lately, she has been enjoying historical fiction novels. She recently found The War That Saved my Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley on Maddie’s bookshelf.

When she first read it I was excited for her, but when she read it a second time I decided I need to read it to see what she loved about it. Wow, wow, wow! There is so much packed into this book. Some of the concepts I have been challenged to think through is how one horrible situation changes a life for the worst and yet for others how it changes their life for the positive. Similar situation, different outcomes. Face to face with the horrors humans experience right in their own homes. It challenges my thinking as a follower of Christ. Am I demonstrating Jesus in my own home? Am I loving my husband and my kids? There is so much damage done to people in the name of God and Jesus.

What will we do with the time we are given? Who will we learn from? This book is so worth your time to read. I would love to read your thoughts and experience in the comments after reading the book.
