The last couple of days Timothy had decided to go on a nursing strike! I googled and read up on some things I could do, thankfully I have also been pumping so Mark could give Timmy a bottle during the early evening shift and I could get some sleep. This morning I finally made an appointment with a lactation consultant to see if I could get some answers. My appointment was set for noon and I was more than ready!
Before my appointment we had a field trip to our local Cold Stone Creamery! A delicious start to our morning! No need to ask my kid’s twice if they’d like ice cream for breakfast! As usual us mom’s asked each other how it was going, I decided to be honest and tell them that Timmy was refusing to latch on. This group of women happen to be power house nursers! Many have multiple kid’s and are pro’s at nursing! I was being so hard on myself, sure it was me that had done something wrong, sure it was me that was going to screw his digestive system up. One mom who has six kid’s said, babies, I have no idea, babies do weird things! Another mom of six said she had used a shield with one of hers. Not one word of discouragement did I receive, each mom was sympathetic and without even knowing it encouraged me to trust the Lord for whatever happened! Trusting the Lord that he has our present and our future in his hands and I can truly rest in his arms! I can truly trust that he has Timmy’s best and my best and my families best in his hands! He cares about Timmy, he cares about me!
After dropping my three older kiddo’s off at home with a dearly loved relative I was off to see the Amy Newman my lactation consultant. After explaining everything I had been doing and not doing, she agreed that I had been doing everything she would have told me to do. I mentioned using a nipple shield to her and she said it was sure worth a try. I thanked her for fitting me into her all ready full schedule and Timmy and I set off for home.
Once home I gave him a bit of a bottle because it had been a while and I wanted him to be calm with a peaceful tummy when I attempted to latch him on again. The shield was the trick! He latched on like the nursing champ he is and nursed for a good 1/2 hour to 45 mins!
Thank you home school mama’s for showing up with so much encouragement! Thank you fellow mama friend’s for loving me this morning, for caring and sharing your hearts with me. For encouraging me to relax and to do the best I can! The body of Christ showed up this morning and I am so very thankful!
