Essential oils, frugal living, home remedy, natural healing, What Can I do with?  /  April 20, 2011

Easy Homemade Deodorant

by robinrussell52

I started out our natural journey with a basic curiosity for how my grandma would have made life’s basic necessities. It grew to understanding how our modern food has begun to make us sick. It is my personal experience and belief we have gotten to far from farm to table. I know I took for granted not knowing what was being put in my faster, pre-made food and products I was putting on my body. Now, I care, I deeply care. I care because I know and see everyday how sick Mark is. I have seen with my own eyes how changing his diet has begun to heal his body. It has been a down right scary process. I am thankful between a couple of companies we trust and some homemade remedies, Mark’s body finds relief.

One of the simple everyday products we were able to change out was our deodorant. As much as possible we will try to purchase from Daisy Blue Naturals. When our budget is low we can easily make it from things we keep on hand in our kitchen. The basic rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t put it in your mouth, don’t put it on your body.

Deodorant recipe:
8 TBLS (also 1/2 cup) coconut oil, warmed
1/4 cup cornstarch or arrowroot powder
1/4 cup baking soda

* I also add our favorite essential oils to the mixture. We prefer to use oils from the Young Living company.

Stir together and store in a container in a cool place (under 70 degrees). We store ours in the refrigerator.

Easy, frugal and it works equals a great combination. To add scent to your deodorant simply add a couple of drops your favorite essential oil. Some of the best ones is eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon or orange oils.
