There is a war in our house this time every year. The stores start putting up Christmas trees and our kids begin to dream of the toy isles. Mark and Maddie’s reaction is the same every year, “Don’t they know we haven’t even celebrated Thanksgiving yet.” My response is the same every year, “let Christmas come as early as it can”.
It isn’t the gifts or the trees I want to come sooner. It is the peace, hope and love that I want to come sooner. It is the remembering a baby boy born to save the world from our sin. It is a time for us to remember the gift of grace, Jesus, the Messiah, would give to those who do not deserve it. If we need to bring in trees and gifts to help the feeling come, then I pray the Lord would use them as tools to open our hearts and eyes to salvation.
One of the things I find funny about the Christmas war in our house is the fact that our kids watch Christmas movies all year long. You would think it would get annoying, but contrary to this thought, it actually keeps us from purging and binging on it once a year. Making the season actually joyful and exciting!
To our excitement Owlegories, a mom and pop company, founded by Thomas and Julie Boto (who have four adorable little boys) has come out with Volume 4 just in time for the Christmas war in our house!
Here’s the thing, when it comes to Owlegories, the war goes out the window. It’s true! They are so funny, the animation top notch and the story lines spot on. Mark cannot be mad that Christmas has come early to the Russell household while he is laughing.
The first adventure is called ‘The Gift’ in which our favorite owlets go off to find three things to get Jesus a birthday present? What did they find and did they need to bring anything to Jesus? Well, we can’t tell you that, it would ruin the surprise!
The second and third adventure go hand in hand. ‘The Star Pt. 1’ and ‘The Star Pt. 2’ tells the tale of the owlets attempt to put on a traditional Christmas play. Does the play go off without a hitch when one of the owls goes missing? Again, we can’t tell you, it would ruin the surprise!
Here is the absolute best part of this whole post. We get to combine Thanksgiving and Christmas into one post! The spirit of Thanksgiving always puts me in a giving mood, which goes perfectly with Christmas, because it’s about giving. See, there is no need for a war!
