Mark’s birthday was passed over at our house in March. We were plagued with sicknesses and did not have energy to celebrate. He said, “that’s ok, we’ll celebrate in Duluth”.
Celebrate we did! He had one place in mind, Canal Park Brewing Company! I am pleased to tell you, we were not disappointed!
As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with welcoming smiles. Seconds later we were escorted to our table. A quiet table in the back, facing the window looking out over canal park. If it hadn’t been raining it would have been wonderful to enjoy the fire they had going on the outside patio. Comfy chairs and a great view would have been the perfect culmination. However, due to the rain, we chose to stay warm and dry inside the restaurant.
As we sat down to look over the beer menu, we were delightfully pleased to see they featured a hard cider from our favorite vineyard, Four Daughters Winery. While we enjoy Four Daughters, our palettes were reserved to savor Canal Park Brewing Company brews.
Mark chose the chicken quesadilla and a dark beer. His beer was a great pair with his quesadillas, bold taste, with a delicious coffee flavor.
While I chose the Beet and Berry Salad with homemade honey-lemon, poppyseed dressing, to which I added grilled Shrimp. I went for a Pale Ale and I was not disappointed. My beer had a woodsy, pine under tone, which had it been paired with appetizers would have been delicious. I remember wishing I had paired my salad with a more subtile, smooth beer. However, this was my pairing, not the brewery’s. I’m sure if I had asked they would have steered me in the right direction.
In Mark’s words, his Chicken Quesadilla was “it was a mouth full of flavor and combined with the guacamole it was a party in my mouth with every bite.”
My salad was the best salad I have ever had in my life! It was seriously amazing! Red, yellow, and orange beets, raspberries, candied walnuts, dried cranberries, and crisp greens made this salad the perfect balance of flavors. The warm grilled shrimp made the rest of the flavors in the salad pop. I seriously enjoyed each and every single bite!
