I did something yesterday and today I have not done since I was pregnant with Timmy. I ran! I did and there was not a human, animal or robot chasing me. It was amazing!
I was excited as I realized my body had not forgotten what to do. My breathing kicked in, my muscles relaxed and my brain was happy.
Skye was happy too as she was able to come along on my run. She could out run me, out pull me and run laps around me. Yet, she happily ran besides me. I’m sure she will appreciate it even more when I am able to consecutively be able to run without stopping for breaks for my legs and lungs.
I never liked running by myself. and I always thought it was lonely before I had a dog to run with. Now, Skye is the perfect running buddy. She happily runs my pace and I feel more relaxed knowing I have a guard dog with me.
I always wondered how runners could keep running. It seemed boring to me. Trail runners were a whole different concept to me. The thought of running in the woods, along wooded paths sounds like heaven to me.
Now, either wooden or paved paths sound like heaven to me. Having my plate filled with problem solving circumstances and situations everyday with our business , homeschooling our kiddos, and helping our community. I know why people run miles upon miles. Because the joy of focusing on breathing and taking the next step is a blissful break. With running it’s thinking about the next step, it’s meditation as you listen to your running mix, sermon or a podcast. It’s brain and body freedom.
I was excited to come home and start mapping out courses to give me an idea of how far I’m running and what I need to do to accomplish running the whole loop. If I have learned anything this year it is that every small baby step eventually turns into a leaping moment.
Mark’s new intensive elimination diet is a great reason to begin eating more consciously as well to help my body have the nutrients it needs to run even better. Working to heal the whole person.
A few months ago I made it my mission to begin doing what makes our family happy. Part of accomplishing this goal is doing what makes me happy. Running with Skye is definitely a highlight of my day. It is also a big part of working to begin a high successful person in all areas of my life. It literally takes one small step at a time.
I love hearing this. In order to help make our family happy, we, as moms, need to be happy too. Even though it is hard to make a commitment to ourselves, I know I function better, which in turn makes my family function better, when I do. Enjoy all the last “warm” days left to run outside!
Thank you, Val, for being an inspiration to me. I am thankful for your honesty and wisdom. I am getting my long under washed and ready for the colder days. Hopefully I can get out of bed on those cold mornings. 😉
