Albert Lea, My Home Town, Friday Funday Field Trips, Minnesota Family Friendly Adventures, Travel  /  June 13, 2017

Edgewater Park is one of our favorite parks in Albert Lea, MN.

by robinrussell52

Albert Lea, Minnesota has over 300 acres of park land throughout the city. On this land throughout town you will find 41 parks. You will find picnic pavilions, a historical museum, Audubon society, horseshoes, basket ball courts, fishing docks or you can fish from the shore. You will find fire pits, grills, a gazebo at Fountain Lake Park, an outdoor stage, kayak rentals at the Boat House as well as Frank Hall Park, a pickleball court, Aquatic Center and many other awesome elements.

One of our family’s very favorite parks in town is Edgewater Park. The North section of the park has a completely enclosed air conditioned building, play park and a parking lot to accommodate even the largest event. The North side of Edgewater Park is also the home of the Bayside Skiers. This ski team has been in town as long as I can remember. Spectators can enjoy shows every Thursday evening and if you check their calendar you can find their show dates and times as well.

Edgewater Park

On the South side of the park you will find a covered pavilion with two fireplaces, water fountains, play park, grills, horse shoes and picnic tables. There is also Edgewater Cottage, a cute little building with an amazing view of Fountain Lake. This gem has a special history in Albert lea. It was formerly a two story farm house. The top part of the house was taken off and the lower part kept for community members to rent out for events. A couple of years ago it was condemned and was going to be taken down. Community members rose up and found the money needed to remodel and make the structure safe again. This building lives on to tell the tale of more family reunions, wedding receptions, graduations, confirmations and company picnics.

Edgewater Park

On the north side of the park you will also find a baseball diamond, a hill many kids have loved to roll down and a wide open field great for kicking a soccer ball, ultimate frisbee or to set up a volleyball net. Edgewater Park has miles of shoreline perfect for throwing in a fishing line. In the summer time you can catch a movie or listen to a band play on the Edgewater stage. Bring a lawn chair, blanket or find a spot on the park benches.

Edgewater Park

Summer time in Albert Lea means swimming, biking, community events, summer picnics, movies in the park and fishing from the shores of Edgewater Park. We love raising our family in Albert Lea.

I grew up not that far from Albert Lea, but have never really spent time there. It looks like it would be a fun adventure with the kids!

It is a fabulous place to live, work and play. We love raising our kids here, we love the easy access to Myre-Big Island, the Rendezvous that is held here every fall. Broadway bike company has bike rentals and there are kayak/canoe rentals at the state park as well as at Frank Hall park. Hope you are able to come visit us soon.

I have lived most of my life in MN, but still haven’t been to Albert Lea. I’ll have to make a trip this summer as it sounds like there is so much to do. Love all of the outdoor activities that are available!

Be sure to try to come for Wind Down Wednesday, book a cruise on the Pelican Breeze or rent a Kayak. The Kayaks and Canoes at Frank Hall Drive require a 24 hour rental fyi. Rent bikes at Broadway Bike Company and explore the Blazing Star Trail. Let me know when you are coming and I would love to help with your experience.
